PSAT, SAT & ACT Prep
Throughout the year, all work that students do in Honors English 2 will build toward success in high-stakes standardized tests required for college admission like the SAT and ACT.
PSAT TEST PREP

WHY TAKE THE PSAT?The PSAT is designed to PREPARE you for both the SAT and ACT and is taken in the 10th and /or 11th grade year. Not only does it familiarize you with the content, structure and process of the test, but you will receive information about what you will need to study to prepare for the real thing. Students in 11th grade also have the ability to earn scholarships (like National Merit Scholarships) based on their performance.

Students may take the PSAT here on campus here at Harbor once a year during the regular school day in October. The PSAT date is set by the College Board. Talk to your counselor about how to sign-up or a waiver if you cannot afford the fee.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SAT AND ACT?
Most 4-year colleges require that you submit SAT or ACT scores as part of the application process, but allow you to CHOOSE the test that is best for you. Each has distinct differences so do a little research ahead of time to find out which test you should take. Most students choose to take these tests twice - the first time in the spring of their eleventh grade year and a second time in the fall of senior year.
SAT Subject Tests (SAT 2)Some colleges require the SAT Subject Tests - also called the SAT 2's - in addition to the SAT or ACT. These schools will often ask that you pick two subjects that best show your academic expertise. This is particularly true if you’re applying to certain programs within a school like an engineering or pre-med program. There are 20 SAT Subject Tests.
